GLOBAL INTEGRATION BOOTCAMP 2021

27th February 2021

The Global Integration Bootcamp goes Virtual in 2021. Instead of multiple local events, we will try to use the opportunity to do an event across the globe, running for 24 hours straight across as many time zones as possible. This Bootcamp is a free event driven by user groups and communities around the world, backed by Microsoft, for anyone who wants to learn more about Microsoft’s integration story. In this full-day event we will deep-dive into Microsoft’s integration stack with sessions and keynotes delivered to you by experts and community leaders.

Agenda

  • Migration from AWS lambdas to Azure Functions

You find yourself in real need of a loosely coupled event driven integration solution….but your stuck in AWS. This session focuses on migration from AWS api gateway/lambdas to azure event grid, functions and api management based solutions.

This session covers the why and the how. Essential if you’ve inherited some AWS.

  • Advanced API Testing with Postman

If you’ve been working with APIs, then you no doubt have heard of or used Google’s Postman for adhoc testing. But did you know that this simple intuitive app can also perform automated tests, including support for multiple environments, CI/CD, API mocking, and more? Come check out this session for a demonstration of some of the lesser known features of Postman.

  • Hands On: Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Functions and the Change Feed in C#

In this lighting talk, we’ll be doing a live coding session! We’ll be building a Azure Function app that uses a Cosmos DB trigger function to utilize the Change Feed.

Using a combination of Dependency Injection and Triggers, we can building some pretty powerful event-driven applications quickly! Attendees will leave this session with the knowledge of what Azure Cosmos DB change feed is, how you can utilize it easily with Azure Functions and in what scenarios you can use the Change Feed for.

You don’t need any experience or knowledge of either Azure Cosmos DB or Azure Functions to join in the fun! The demo will be in C# so C# knowledge would help.

  • Custom Distributed Tracing and Observability Practices with Azure Functions

As developers, we tend to focus on building and shipping our services and apps to production, but it’s quite common that we forget to think about what happens after go-live. Once we reach production, the solution becomes someone else’s problem. But, even if we could build bug-free services, distributed systems will fail. And if we don’t design and build our services with traceability and observability in mind, we won’t give the means to the operations team to troubleshoot problems when they arise.
While Azure Functions provide very rich telemetry with Application Insights; in this session we will see how to implement custom tracing and some observability practices in Azure Functions adding business related metadata, leveraging the structured logging capabilities, and going beyond the out-of-the-box features.
In the session, I will demo a distributed tracing approach for Azure Functions that works well in integration solutions following the Publish-Subscribe integration pattern.
